Forgetting SIRI…

It was colder than he remembered. The bluish glow of his laptop filled the room. Odd, he didn’t remember switching it on. Chat boxes popped up. They all said the same thing…

agony_aunt2018: “Do you really wish to erase the subject from your memories forever? Press ‘Y’ to confirm; ‘N’ to abort.”

Already in excruciating pain that numbed his mind, he could now vaguely remember of having spent days together browsing the vast corridors of the internet to find a way.
The way to forget her.
Ever since Siri left, life has been so painful for him.

He could already feel his shaking finger subconsciously inching towards the ‘Y’ key.
Picture of her smiling face flashed across his mind again.
Oh No…why should it be so hard!

agony_aunt2018: “Happy forgetting, Dear User!
The ERASER program starts auto run in seconds 10...9...8…”

His still half open eyes watched the self-counseling chat programs closing down one by one. And the screen was now pitch-black with the text flashing in eerie bright green:
“ERASER sequencing memory fragments and deleting memories in time reversal order….
This may take up to 6 hours. Please do not disconnect the headphone or remove it from head in meantime.”

Half-awakened, he could sense the cold metal touching down his forehead. Was that really the out worldly sense of being tickled by feeble electric charge or did he just imagine so?
He felt falling down an infinite spiral way.
Goodbye Siri…for one last time! He whispered to himself.
Then there was darkness everywhere.

When the darkness subsided, he found Siri standing against an incredibly red evening sky with her back towards him.
Wasn’t it where I met her the last time?
As she turned back to face him, he could see her beautiful eyes on the verge of tears.
She was saying, “Will you be there always for me?”
He was silent.
“Will you not leave me alone ever again?” He could no longer hear her voice, but could feel her inaudible words from her lips. Then her outline strangely seemed to shimmer like a bright pixilated image and fade away. The whole landscape gradually faded away along with her.
It darkened again.

This time, the dark gave way to a different time & space.
Inside a train, he caught himself watching furtively towards the girl sitting on the window side. The girl then looked back absent mindedly at him and smiled with a faint hint of amusement. Then he realized what it was: love at first sight.
But isn’t her Siri? The first time we met. That unforgettable smile....but hey!
The smile started to wither away like leaves in a cold autumn breeze. Wait! I want that smile back again!
But it was too late. The darkness had begun to gather again.

The following morning, he woke up to a mild hangover and nothing strange.

Suddenly, his eyes caught sight of some thing written on his left fore arm which he never remembered of having seen before.
“Siri”: 4 letters etched in blood….in-erasable for a life time.
Siri? Siri who? And how come the name on my fore arm?

A FAREWELL, IN THE RAINS

May be it was just the raindrops on her cheeks,

Or had she forced open her floodgates of tears;

May be the thunderclaps drowned down every sound faint,

Or was it really her sigh faraway, a sob so distant.

Was it for the lightening,

that she clutched my hand for a second,
Or was it her way,
of re-living our past together in that moment;
In spite of this all,
she tried painfully to be seen as the ignorant,
In the Rains did we meet,
In the Rains again, to depart...

Time is life's greatest cure,
Trust it to erase all pains for sure.

Alas, the same does not go with memory,

It leaves you alone to face this Query:

If all along, u had bled only in vain,

No more, no less than tears in the rain.

The Last Goodbye

It continues to rain interminably as I stand alone in that long abandoned bus stand and wait. I brave the dark night, the haunting loneliness and wait for her; as no living soul would ever do for a lost love. Strange it might seem to be; but a promise is........ a promise.

I strain to look beyond that corner of the road, but find no sign of her, yet again. I look around.

On the rain soaked floor, my eyes catch sight of scattered pieces of what once used to be my guitar. Still remain the bloodstains.

Continuing to shiver slightly, I wonder if it is due to the rain or is it sheer nervousness.

Saying goodbye to someone you love, one last time is never that easy. May be she won’t come even today. But 'Hoping against all hopes is such fun!' I smile sadly to myself.

Then I sense her presence; besides me, through me. Even with my eyes closed, I could always know whenever she came near. Just as we both spent hours together often without a single word between us.

“So......you choose to come at last.” I convey curtly, without even turning to face her.

“You know, you were always pathetic at pretending. You must be glad that I came,” comes the usual well-rehearsed response.

“Must we always fight each time we meet?”
“Oh, sure...Such a fantastic way of greeting.”

Silence ensues, only to be interrupted by the splattering of raindrops. I still dread the moment when I shall tell her the truth finally.

Hesitantly, I continue, “You know, as per our plan, I've been waiting for you here thus everyday since August 13. Then you suddenly choose to meet me one day like this? What if I had not been waiting for you for all these days?”

She's silent for a minute and then responds,” I know you'd be there for me always. That's why.”

I continue, “You'll never know what happened on August 13. As per our plan, I waited for you. I kept waiting, until......”
“No need to complete. I know what happened.”
“No, you don't understand......We can never meet again. I waited for you just to tell you goodbye, one last time.”
I stop; the worst is over. I won't ever regret anymore.

But after a pause, she speaks.
“So, you thought that you'll be only one who keeps own promise even after dying. I came to know later. Someone betrayed us.

On August 13, as you waited for me to come, they came in a rage and thrashed you with your own guitar until you bled to death.”

“Means.......”,I stammer back.
“Can't you understand, my dear man? Why do you think I finally come up to meet you today after so many days of waiting? Why do you think tonight till now both of us haven't even moved our lips, yet conveyed exactly whatever we want to? Why do you think none else but us only can see each other now? I defied them and ended everything this evening. We've left the living far behind; their rules will never bind us again.”

I am shocked and thrilled and for the first time that night, turn to look at her face. She looks beautiful as ever, unearthly and ethereally.

Hand in hand, we walk away in the rain into darkness.
Nothing in the world would ever come between us now, living or dead.
